Express entry is an online points based system where your application stays in the pool for a specific time period and the more points you earn, the more chances of success. There is a draw twice a month and in order to qualify for the ITA you have to achieve the minimum points.
Canada manages applications for skilled workers through Express Entry, who want to become permanent residents. Eligible candidates submit their profile on the Canadian government’s website. Approximately every two weeks in a draw, top-ranked immigration candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence.
Immigration Programs under Express Entry: All the programs managed under the Express Entry system have different eligibility criteria. The programs are:
a) Federal Skilled Worker
b) Federal Skilled Trades Program
c) Canadian Experience Class
How Points are calculated: Express Entry profile will get points based on following; education level, work experience, language abilities in English and/or French (Canada’s 2 official languages), work experience and skills, age, spouse’s education, or if you have a job offer in Canada.
You will get additional points if you have completed a college or university program in Canada or if you have a provincial nominations.
How it works: Once you fill out a profile for express entry, your application will be ranked accordingly as a skilled immigrant. After creating Express Entry profile it doesn’t guarantee invitation to apply, since applicants have to meet all eligible and admissibility requirements. After entering the pool, candidates are assigned a CRS score based on the factors including education, work experience, language ability, and other criteria. Usually highest-ranking candidates are selected from draw and invited to apply for permanent residence.
